One Week in Birmingham:
a love letter with a life of its own

Telling a city’s story

I started “One Week in Birmingham” with no expectations in September 2024. I simply thought others might see what I saw in Birmingham if they followed me around for a week. Since then, it has become what many people across Alabama look forward to on Monday mornings.

With 57 episodes released (and counting!) OWIB is an Instagram series that depicts life in the Magic City through both big and small moments, always centering people, stories, and the joy that connects us all.

One Week in Birmingham has been a study in learning my own style as a creator. Narrative-based, curious, and enthusiastic, my voice online has become a trusted explorer through our city, moving others to think about Birmingham differently.

OWIB x Birmingham Lifestyle Magazine

I was invited by Birmingham Lifestyle Magazine to share my ideal week in Birmingham for a feature highlighting OWIB’s growth as a local storytelling platform.

I authored the majority of the article’s written content, alongside an introduction written by the magazine’s editorial team.

The expansion of a series

From the first episodes of One Week in Birmingham, viewers have been asking for a resource to help them plan their own weeks in Birmingham. That ask is certainly valid, considering every OWIB episode is retrospective.

That’s why I developed Your Week in Birmingham, a forward-looking newsletter outlining the week ahead in Birmingham.

My goal with this project is to give others the information they need to have weeks in Birmingham worth sharing, and ultimately, to strengthen our community and promote small businesses.

Sponsor-facing launch

Your Week in Birmingham is powered by the sponsorship of local businesses. To give potential sponsors an idea of the final product, I designed this one pager that was customized to every business.

By using this language, I was able to secure 16 issue sponsorships before the newsletter’s community-facing launch.
